Indoor riding arena in Flyinge, Sweden

New building – 50 x 100m free-span hall.

This indoor riding arena in Sweden has a free span of 40m, the building is approx. 85m long. The bearing structure consists of roof surfaces of glulam solid wood panels underhung with steel tension rods. The walls were also made of glulam panels, so there are no fixed supports. The roof panels and side / gable walls brace against the horizontal forces. Steel frames are used to transfer the forces on the glazed walls, while these panels assume this function on the glulam panel walls.
This mode of construction allowed the use of very simple strip foundations, which led to substantial savings on this very poor ground.
